DIY Mini Scarf and Cape for Gromit and Feathers McGraw Plushie

Inspired by the Young V&A’s “Inside Aardman: Wallace & Gromit and Friends” exhibition and the Barbour x Wallace & Gromit collaboration, I transformed a piece of Classic Tartan fabric into handmade outfits for my Gromit and Feathers McGraw plushies

This project was inspired by

  • Young V&A Museum's Exhibition "Inside Aardman: Wallace & Gromit and Friends"
  • The Barbour x Wallace & Gromit collab
  • A piece of Classic Tartan fabric I purchased on ebay for Christmas
  • My appreciations towards Gromit and Feather McGraw characters

Let the project begins...

Part 1 - Scarf

I asked chatgpt for the dimensions based on the size of each of them, and I took the longer length and width in the range
Now Gromit and Feathers McGraw both have their own Classic Tartan scarf! However, I wanted to accomplish more than this very simple scarf i.e. sew an outfit for each of them.

Therefore, the Part 2 comes in.

Part 2 - Cape / Poncho

Fun Facts:

  • The cutout of this pattern below was meant only for Gromit but the "Cape Hood" ended too small for Gromit's head
  • The "Cape Front" also turned out to be too narrow for Gromit's body.

After a few trial-and-error, the end product of Gromit's poncho outfit consists of

  1. Cape Hood pattern x 2 - where the "place on fold" now covers his arms (Then trim and sew as needed)
  2. A leather string to tie and lace
  3. A Barbour pin (that came with my wax jacket purchase years ago) to fix the front of Gromit's poncho

The final outfit of Feathers McGraw consists of

  1. The "Cape Front" pattern that didn't fit Gromit, sewn together with his scarf
  2. Additional scarf made for Gromit's now layered onto Feathers McGraw
You will have to manually adjust the proportion of the pattern based on the size of your plush
